thursday 1/28/2010

Got up at 6:30 and did the make hubby coffee, pack lunch, make breakfast thing. Did my devotions..talked to Nicole on her way to school and then got dressed and headed to the gym. I decided to join so I did that. 61.95 this month and then 21.95 a month the rest of the year. So I walked 3.3 miles and burned 335 calories. Then did some weight training. Tired but feeling pretty accomplished. I actually waited till noon to eat lunch instead of chowing down the minute I walked in the house. I just heard today that I was supposed to get 10-15 inches of snow today...yeah I'm still waiting. So I guess that's it for now...me

Another Week....

Monday morning I went for my first work out session..oh boy. Been a long time since I've worked out and I'm feeling it. Monday night my Mom and Sister came over again to spend the night coz my sister had an appointment for an MRI. They, Jen and I played Mexican Train Dominoes. That was so much fun. Ken came out laughing and said," You really better check facebook" It all started with my Aunt saying she couldn't wait to see me the next day and went down hill from there. But it was fun playing dominoes AND facebooking at the same time. Tuesday we went to Strong for the MRI..who would have thought an MRI would take 2 hours?Do they usually take 2 hours? Then we went over to my cousins and went out to eat lunch..THat was fun..and back to her house to play dominoes. We came back to my house and Mom and Judy went home. I was beat so I made supper, did dishes and got my PJ's on. My legs and back were aching from exercising so I did the Old Lady Ben Gay rub thing. This morning I had to go to the dentist. First of all I hate going to the dentist. I have to go 4 times a year and with the dental insurance I had we used to have to pay the dentist and then the insurance company would cut me a check. So I told them I had new dental insurance..they checked it out and it cost me zip, nothing , nada. I love MetLife. Hubby was happy too when I told him no more having to make sure we have money in the account to pay the dentist. So I guess that's it for now...chow

Health Insurance Frustrations

Can I tell ya how much I hate changing health insurance? We switched over to Ken's insurance because its better then what I had. It costs twice as much but its much better insurance..So Tuesday night I found out we have a separate RX card...did I tell ya that? Well we do...so I go to the doctors office and they copy the information but tell me to call Medco and see if they accepted the prescriptions he faxed in. Well I went on the Medco site while I was at the library and you have the ability to change your insurance info...great !!!! Only my purse is in the van and the card is in my wallet, which is in my purse, which is in the van. Ok...I'll do it when I get home. Get home....go to the Medco website...put in the new info...hit save changes...." Please fix the areas in red"..my birthdate..nothing wrong with that...my insurance number...nothing wrong with that..argggggggghhhhhhhhhhh call the 1-800 number...seems I can't change the insurance info because GM hasn't let them know yet that I no longer have insurance through them...I talked to 2 people and "supposedly" its fixed...we'll see. Things seldom go easy for me. This waiting for my Mom and sister to show up is killing me....I'm so impatient...(insert Final Jeopardy song here) LOL. I wanna spend time with them before my in laws get here which is gonna be around 4:30. My father in law called last night after we got home from church and said they made it as far as Chambersburg,PA. I guess Ken's grandma isn't doing to good mentally. From what I gathered last night you tell her something and 5 minutes later she forgets...She's 91. So off to find someting to do to take my mind off the fact Mom didn't leave at 6 AM so she'd be here already...

Catching up

So lets see....Saturday Ken and Jen went and got 5 movies at the library...Diary of Anne Frank, Pride and Prejudice, Gettysburg, The original Stepford Wives (sniff sniff), and Signs. Saturday we watched...Diary of Anne Frank, Stepford Wives and Signs...well they watched Signs...I only looked up at the spooky parts..of course. Sunday was Fellowship Sunday. Sunday School started at 9:20 and Morning service started at 10:45..instead of 9:45 and 11:00..then we had a meal at church...turkey,stuffing,green bean casserole and gravy...plus all kinds of dessert and then no evening service..So Sunday afternoon/early evening we watched Gettysburg.. 4 hours 14 minutes worth. That was one long movie..then we made homemade pizza. Monday Ken and Jen had off for Martin Luther King Day..we took back cans and bottles..went to Skips and got pork steaks for $1.49 a pound and italian sausage for $1.99 a pound and then went to Triano's and got a whole NY Strip Loin for $2.49 a pound and baby back ribs for $2.99 a pound. Then we went to Monte Alban for lunch and stopped at Mona Lisa and picked up desserts to eat at home. Ken got a gelato and because I was afraid it was going to melt before we got home I was spooning it into his mouth while he drove. LOL..we got home...he sliced up the loin into steaks and cut the ribs up into 3 or 4 rib sections and we put those in the freezer to freeze so we could pack them separately. Then we watched Pride and Prejudice. Yesterday I went to the doctor. It was my 3 month check up but I'd been having pressure in my chest so he did an EKG, had me do a blood test and sent me for an Echo/Stress test. EKG looked ok...blood test came back normal and Echo/Stress showed nothing so I guess I'll live a little longer. Today I called and made my appointment for my yearly mammogram which is long overdue, cancelled my health insurance (Ken has better insurance ) packed the ribs in a double freezer ziplock bag and individually sealed the NY Strips in vaccum bags, then I came to the library for some quiet time. So that's what I've been up to. Tomorrow my mom and sister are coming..Mom has a doctor appointment tomorrow and my sister has one Friday. Also my inlaws will be in town tomorrow. They're taking us out for supper for out anniversary which is Friday...10 YEARS !!!!!! Can ya believe it...so I guess thats all I have to say for now...later

Update on canning

I ended up getting 15 quarts of tomato sauce...4 didn't seal so I put 3 back in the canner and used the 4th to make a batch of homemade chili. Now if I could get the darn pinto beans to soften so I could add them to the chili. Went grocery shopping and spent almost all the grocery money...but I got some good deals with coupons at BJ's....we now have 12 boxes of Kleenex and I only payed for 6. Other then that..not much going on

Catching up

Not that much really goes on in the winter usually so its hard to post faithfully. Lets see...leg is looking better but is still really sore. Went with Nicole yesterday to get her books for this semester. We walked around campus for awhile which is probably why my leg hurts. Last time I made spaghetti sauce I realized I had only one more quart of tomato sauce downstairs...oh oh. But in the freezer I had 28 quarts of tomato juice in the freezer so I'm boiling that down and canning it. I have 7 quarts done..They look nice sitting on the counter..and another 10 quarts boiling down on the stove which should give me another 5-7 quarts of sauce. Hopefully that will last until my tomatoes are ready this summer.Next week is gonna be super busy..I have a doctor's appointment Tuesday..Mom has one Thursday and Judy has one Friday..Plus my inlaws are going to be in town. Is next week over yet? No I guess not..Other then that not much new going on. I went Monday and spent some time with my Aunt Edna, her granddaughter Val and her great grandson Dylyn. We had a blast playing Skip-Bo. So I guess that's it for now...Gotta make lunch and stir my tomato sauce.

Snowing and other stuff

So the Lemon Chicken wasn't all that great. So that recipe is gone. Just kinda hung out at the house New Years Day and watched movies. Saturday Shaun, Nicole and Jim came over...and then Sammy brought the kids over so they could see Shaun before he left. Fortunately I'd bought a Stouffers Lasagna. I fed 7 adults and 4 kids with it. Everybody left and I decided maybe I should get the leg looked at so we dropped Jen off at a friend's house and we took off for Highland Hospital. We sat in the waiting room 4 hours. Finally got in to be seen. Had several x-rays taken..hip, knee and toe to make sure nothing was broken or fractured..It isn't..Just a deep tissue contusion aka bruise. So Hubby and I got to spend 6 hours of quality time together at Highland Hospital. Shaun's flights went without a hitch..He texted me when he got to Denver. Ken,Jen and I are flying to Colorado Springs in March to see him. I can't wait. It will probably be our last trip to Colorado as he goes to school in Missouri from the end of May until the middle of August and then probably will be stationed in Virginia. Today is a major snow storm...sorry but I have to say....I LOVE IT !!!!! We went to church this morning no problem. Thought we might have trouble getting out of the driveway but we didn't..despite the drifts. Ken made mystery skillet for lunch. He does that every once in a while. It was rice, mushrooms and hamburger...then he added other things and I'm supposed to guess what it is...I don't even bother...as long as it tastes good...and it always does I just eat.

Happy New Year

Well here it is...my first post of 2010. Hope you all had a happy and uneventful new years celebration. We spent ours as church. First we did "Buy a song" praises..tell everybody what you're thankful for from the year and get to pick a song out of the hymnal. Mine of course was the fact that Shaun ( my 30 year old son ) came home form Iraq safely and that he was able to come to NY for Christmas. I think its only the 2nd time he's been here for Christmas in the 7 years he's been in the army. Then one of the junior pastors gave a devotional on what we strive for in 2010. Eventually he'd like to start a church in the city but he's still in training right now. Then there were snacks and either games or a movie. Hubby and I chose to watch the movie..It was good. It was called Saving God..about a preacher who was trying to get his Daddy's old church going again after having been in jail for losing his temper and killing his friend. The church was in a drug infested neighborhood. Excellent excellent movie. Then we watched the ball drop and came home. Fortunate for us we only live 5 miles from church. We only passed 3 or 4 cars but I was still very nervous until we got home. Woke up this morning and Hubs and I laid in bed watching the Today Show. Some chef was on there making Lemon Chicken...I said, " Hm..that sounds good"...so I made some for lunch. Waiting for the rice to get done so we can eat. Last night...or this morning...when we got home from church I opened up my pension direct deposit statement..ummmmm where's my money. I hope this new pension company hurrys up and sends me the rest of my money coz $90 isn't gonna pay for much..its only a tenth of my mortgage payment. The leg is still sore..and the black and blue has extended..It looks like I got run over by a mack truck..but the initial spot is starting to turn yellow so that's a good sign. Well...off to see if the rice is done yet.
